Our Brightmare has ended.

While looking through old sketchbooks this past summer for stuff that could work on Sunday, I quickly found the perfect candidate for the inaugural feature. Brightmare was the first self published comic that I tried selling at a convention about a decade ago (2010’s NYCC [sharing a table with Alexis Ziritt & Ralph Niese] and Expozine in Montreal [sharing a table with Liam Byrne]). In fact, I think Expozine may have even been in the first half of November, so it's exactly a decade ago.

I know many artists often look back on old work and cringe, but the original Brightmare is especially cringe-worthy for me. It definitely wasn't what I was fully capable of at the time. It was lazy and rushed, and I think that shows. But hey, I was learning, and seeing it again I realized that this weird little proto-comic, which starred updates of some of the first characters I made up as a kid (Star's Adventure and Dark Dream, along with two unnamed newcomers), deserved another shot. I also thought it'd be fitting as the first new comic I'd draw in about four years.

As of today the new comic is up in its entirety. Everyone's back for the update, but what's happening makes a little more sense. Leave This Bright World, another offshoot of the original Brightmare, can be seen towards the bottom of this page.
