¿Como va?
I’ve been feeling a little uninspired the past couple of months. There’s never really a solution for that, and it happens to every artist once in a while. Creative will is a body of water and we’re subject to its ebbs and flows. But I recently had the opportunity to be in Spain (ma’s motherland) for a few weeks, and fellows, I feel new.
Above is my return to digital art after weeks away from the tablet. 1-4 are an elaboration on a series of ideas from my sketchbook drawn during, and inspired by, the trip. Fresh material, unconnected to anything I’ve done before, that I intend to explore further once I have more time to do so. The digital sketchbook template used in 3-8 is based on a decade old attempt at branding which was meant to be used on all my comics but only ever got used on one (see below [also, I wrote about Uo here]). We often blow past material with potential on our path forward and it’s a good idea to look back once in a while and resurrect it. (I intend to write more about that, but here’s a small thread on Twitter that briefly expands on it.)
I’ve been neglecting the blog, as well as most of my other creative endeavors, and this entry is little more than a check in to get this stuff down. It doesn’t quite do justice to the ideas I’d like to articulate, but it’s here anyway.
